Artist Bio

Introducing: Kaiter

Born in and adopted from Yellowknife, NWT, I grew up in BC. Throughout my education, no matter the focus I was always artistic. There were always doodles and drawings in my notes. My parents wanted to make sure I can support myself with a great education and a more secure job. However, I always knew that I would pursue art because I had talent and skills.

Teachers and EAs saw that and encouraged it. After a struggle in deciding which direction to go, I finally found peace and satisfaction in choosing Visual Arts as my major in University. There is always joy in completing pieces! As life progresses, my career path has become clearer. As I continue to succeed in my art degree, I grow increasingly excited to pursue Art Therapy. I am here to encourage and support you and others with art as our medium!

The Vision of my Mission

As a spiritual person, I love to connect with nature. I also love to nurture my relationships with friends and family. I have also gone through a difficult journey concerning mental health. In my pursuit to become an art therapist, I love looking at things from a therapeutic or psychological perspective.

So a lot of my projects and artworks will focus on nature and subjects significant to me and my relationships. I hope viewers can connect and relate as we approach things in symbolic and abstract ways.

One thing I focus on is definitely the animals in nature. Most people say "spirit animals" but more culturally respectful ways to refer to them is a familiar, avatar, kindred spirit, Patronus, or raison d'être. Either way, I paint about animals that seem symbolically significant. Whether they're a part of who I am or represent a relationship I have.

On the psychology side, I choose my colours based on representation and symbolic nature as well. Sometimes I stay natural to let the subjects and objects tell a story. Other times I use unnatural colours chosen to represent emotion, traits or status. Such as loyalty, royalty, calm, joy, anger etc...

I love to paint where it's got a natural representation of objects, but in an abstract or odd composition. Sometimes I do love to just paint nature, but I'll often opt to get more creative with the view!

I invite you to view a part of my world and join my journey in mental health and healing as we find our place in this world.
